GPS Tracking System: The Long History from World War II to Cold War
GPS tracking device has a long history. In fact, the development of the current version of the GPS vehicle tracking device came all the way from the World War 2 and all throughout the Cold War. It was originally used by the US military in order to locate locations of tanks and soldiers whenever they are going into missions, this purpose which has now turned out to be applicable for so many kinds of uses. The original GPS tracking system design of the 1970 was being operated by as much as 24 satellites! Nowadays, according to telecommunication experts, only 3 satellites are now being used.
Apart from the US military’s contribution to the development of the modern day GPS, Soviet technology has also managed to contribute fairly to the GPS that we know today. The 1950s Sputnik has been studied by the US to the point that they managed to learn few tricks from the satellite and had it applied to their gadget.
A GPS of the present and the past functions under same concepts that whether for military or civilian purposes; it allows satellites to receive signals and it calculates its three dimensional location namely latitude, longitude and altitude. Along with this, it also gives of the time when the location was read.
This technology has now been applied for so many purposes since its creation for military reasons. Nowadays, people could use the GPS for navigation and have it installed on their cars. They could also make use of the GPS to locate their cars during a car theft incidence. And lastly it has also been used by pet owners to have their pets located.
